1968 BREITLING Chronomat "MUSEUM PIECE"

Up for your consideration, is perhaps one of the most rare and beautiful Breitling watches ever offered on eBay.  This 40 year old, nearly perfect, 48mm Chronomat, boasts an ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED white, pearlescent dial (which is one of the rarest dials for this watch and era, one can find outside of the Breitling museum).

Don't believe me??  Go to the Online Museum's online address and look for yourself ! "The Chronomat 818 with Pearlescent Dial" on display can not even compare with this "Rare Beauty" up for auction.

I found this one on a trip through Italy at an estate auction outside of Florence.  It was originally purchased new by a young Italian pilot and watch collector in 1969.  It's obvious that this watch was treated with the utmost care.  He wore it for a few years, and put it away after style and fashions changed. The young man grew old and passed away. The watch was found in a wool sock, in a dresser drawer where it had been untouched, for 25 years!  I bid, won the auction and am now offering it for sale on eBay.

THE SLIDE RULE CHRONOMATS  1940 TO 1975

The Breitling Chronomat, with its rotating slide-rule, was patented in 1941.  As the war raged through Europe and other parts of the world, its design offered a welcome respite from the plethora of military and military-inspired watches of the period.  The Chronomat's emphasis on engineering and mathematics, science and industry, seemed to offer hope for a future when the war would be over and reconstruction could begin.

In 1952, the outstanding usefulness and success of the Chronomat inspired the birth of what has since become the most famous Breitling of all, the Navitimer, a chronograph with the slide-rule redesigned for civil aviation pilots.

The Chronomats went on to be produced in many forms, including a version of the first automatic chronograph watch in the late 1960’s and a quartz non- chronograph during the 1970’s. Then in the 1980’s, it was reborn in a very different form as a pilot's watch and without the slid-rule. This new incarnation was designed with input from Italian military pilots.

The Chronomat has remained one of Breitling’s most successful watches for over sixty years. Contrary to general belief, it is not the Navitimer, but the Chronomat that has, in recent years, proved to be Breitling's most popular model and biggest seller.

The BIG CASE CHRONOMATS

A completely new type of case with a patented geared bezel mechanism is developed for the Chronomat. The first Chronomat to be released for sale was the Stunning manual wind, VENUS 176 MOVEMENT version, (reference #818). This Chronomat is that model. Although, it must be added that those Chronomat watches which had the ultra-rare, pearlescent dial, were very few in number!  The dial is perfect!  There are no chips, flakes, or flaws of any kind!  And for a forty-year-old watch, this is incredibly rare!

The case is 99% perfect.  There are no dings, dents or heavy scratches. (SEE PHOTOS)

The watch comes with two bands. First the original rubber sport strap, second a top end quality Chopard, genuine, alligator strap, with a stainless steel deployment.

Good luck bidding...

PLEASE NOTE
ALL BIDDERS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES MUST CONTACT ME FOR SHIPPING COSTS BEFORE BIDDING; otherwise, I reserve the right to cancel your bid.
Further... if the bids do not reflect the "true market value "of this watch , I reserve the right to end the auction early... i.e. 13 hours before the auction is scheduled to end!
